"MAYFLOWER II" getting a major overhaul in Fremantle, summer 1996.

In 1943 five keen fishermen formed a club in Victoria Park to engage in boat fishing. The membership grew and they hired boats at Fremantle until 1967 when the club purchased their first boat - a 10.6 meter Carvel built fishing boat named "BOUNTY". She was moored at the East Fremantle Council jetty where the club has leased a mooring ever since.

In the meantime, the members decided to build their own boat and on 10 January 1980 she was launched at the Raffles Hotel Pier on the Swan River and named "WALLY'S DREAM", in honour of the then club president, the late Wally Clark. This wood/fibreglass boat was 13.7 meters long with a 4.3 meter beam and powered by twin Mercedes diesels. WALLY'S DREAM served the club until it was sold in 1991 when the present boat was purchased.

The current club boat is a 40 foot Sambraillo named "MAYFLOWER II", powered by a Volvo 270 diesel engine. It is fitted out with colour sounder, GPS navigation, EPIRB, Zodiac and all the necessary safety equipment.

The Victoria Park Angling Club exists purely to give the average person the pleasure and benefits of deep sea fishing without the expense and effort of maintaining a boat. The club is administered by an elected committee which is voted in at the annual general meeting. Fishing tackle used on "MAYFLOWER II" must comply with AAA rules, bag limits and catch sizes are strictly followed. Trips are usually deep sea and up to 30km out. Fishing depths normally range from about 40 fathoms (80 meters) to 100+ fathoms (in the Rottnest Trench)...The trips are run on weekends, tuesdays and any other days when there are sufficient people to make up a crew.
